I yearn
I pine
I hope
And I desire
Alas
I learn
I can’t whine
I shatter
And burn like fire
There’s pain
There’s hurt
There’s anger
And lots of ire
There was promise
There was love
There was life
Oh, you liar!
I yearn
I pine
I hope
And I desire
Alas
I learn
I can’t whine
I shatter
And burn like fire
There’s pain
There’s hurt
There’s anger
And lots of ire
There was promise
There was love
There was life
Oh, you liar!
Beautiful.

I think this is the perfect length for a poem of this style. It really accentuates the kind of light-heartedness of it, reflected in the ending through rhyme. I mean the topic is quite serious, but I felt a light-heartedness to it. Rhyme always seems to make things more light-hearted.
