Why a Poet #4

You think I write

Because of you

First as a muse

Later as a lesson

You showed me love, peace and happiness

You taught me to set myself free in the wilderness

You showed me pain, hurt and betrayal

You taught me how even the best laid plans go awry

You gave me hope

And you broke my heart

Both ends of the spectrum

I’ve traversed the entire rainbow

No pot of gold on either end

You say I write

Because of you

You showed me life

In its most naked form

But darling

For once, I’d beg to differ

I write

Despite of you.
