Kinder Than Needed

The one’s who know my story

Often come back to ask me

Why am I still not wary?

How can I still love?

What can possibly make me care?

Where do I dig in

To find back some trust?

Why does my heart not rust?

To them, I say –

I’ve given it all a try

Closed up, so no one could pry.

I’ve even done the age old idiom

Of being once bitten, twice shy.

What others do to you,

Is a testament not unto you.

You be you.

You do you.

And most of all

You be kind.

Kinder than is necessary.

it’s not enough to be kind.

One should be kinder than needed.

– R. J. Palacio, Wonder

Hello, my loves! Today, I tried to combine a thought in my mind with a quote from a recently read book that has somehow stayed with me. To begin with, they were completely unrelated strains. I would like to believe I tied them together sufficiently enough through my poem. Please be kind and let me know your thoughts on it? You know I’d be delighted!

Thank you for reading.

As always –

P.S. – The featured image is a scene from ‘The Help’. It just happens to be one of those rare occurrences where the movie turns out better than the book it’s based on. Majorly because of brilliant performances by some phenomenal actors. Partly because of the manner in which a delicate issue has been handled and conveyed. It will make you shed tears, yes, but it will also make you feel love. And don’t we all need a little bit more of that in this world, dear? Watch the movie, if you haven’t already and, maybe, do your heart a favour!

P.P.S. – No, it’s not a romantic movie.

P.P.P.S. – Is P.P.S. even a thing? πŸ€”

  1. To be kind and strong. It’s what can change the world, heal someone, bring a smile on someone’s face. Loved reading this post Varnika! Bravo πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘

  2. This read like a dance across a ballroom floor! Elegantly written! (Ridiculed, dissected, finger pointed as a fake, etc. Kindness is no longer acceptable?? Suspicious? A lie?) Your beautiful poem is so very needed! My eyes welled up. Poetry at its best!

    1. Oh, thank you! You’ve been very kind with your compliments (not sure I deserved even half of those). I am so very glad you liked the poem! Much love πŸ’•
